The Coptic Orthodox Church todays uses what some scholars have called the 'Coptic Common Order' (Jasper and Cuming, 1990:67), with a choice of three anaphoras: St Cyril, St Gregory and St Basil, which is the most commonly used. The Liturgy of St Basil is used throughout the year, except on the Feasts of the Nativity, Epiphany, Resurrection and Pentecost, when the Liturgy of St Gregory is celebrated. For a contemporary text of St Gregory, see Coptic Theological College (Sydney) 1994, and The Service of the Deacon and Hymns, 1993. The Liturgy of St Mark, a Greek liturgy anciently used at Alexandria, is known essentially by fragments of its anaphora; a recension of the anaphora is now known in the Coptic Rite as the Liturgy of St. Cyril. (cf Cody 1991:1539-1540) The Liturgy of St Cyril can no longer be celebrated in its entirety, the melodies of the Liturgy having been lost.
Divine Liturgy of St. Basil [St. Bassillious the Great]:
Take, drink of it all of you. For this is my Blood for the new covenant which shall be shed for you and many, to be given for the remission of sins. Do this in remembrance of Me.
Divine Liturgy of St. Gregory:
Take, drink of it all of you. For this is My Blood of the new covenant, which will be shed for you and for many, to be given for the remission of sins. Do this in remembrance of Me.
Divine Liturgy of St. Cyril:
Take, drink of it all of you, for this is My Blood of the new covenant which shall be shed for you and for many, to be given for the remission of sins. Do this in remembrance of Me.
